"Side A" (tracks 1 through 5) explore my affinity and fondness for blues.  From the jazzy "Can't Get Up Without Getting Down" to the funky "It's All Good".  From the canjun/New Orleans flavored "Kid From Down Home" to the middle of the swamp "Now You See Me, Now You Don't"

"Side B" (tracks 6 through 10) offer a more folk experience.  From the humorous ("Role Reversal Blues"), to sweet ("Dream of You"), and one driving beat song about driving home to your true love.

This album is available for digital download purchase!

Below is a new e-store I'm trying out. My latest CD of all original music "Doesn't Get Better Than This" can be purchased all at once, or as many individual tracks as you would like. Click on the little "+" symbol next to my name to expand the track listing (if you're not seeing it already). Click on a track to preview, then press the button to listen to a sample. The rest you should be able to figure out. Payments are secured through PayPal. Thanks!

Bret Blackshear

Guitar player, singer, songwriter.

Fun to hear and see live, Bret is originally from Charlotte, North Carolina where his parents introduced him to music (they met, they had coffee, it was good) at the age of 9.  He'd actually been listening to music prior to that age, of course, but....you get the idea.

Musical influences come from a love of jazz and blues.  Lately musical influences come from some really great people he's been lucky enough to know and play with (the great virtual unknown Eddie Jeff Cahill among them).

Not growing up with a particular desire to sing nor any idea that he could, he learned he could play well enough on any stringed instrument (as long as it doesn't involve a bow) and has taken up guitar, bass, mandolin, and banjo all at some time or another.  When playing live, he plays guitar.

Bolstered by encouraging words from people listening to his singing, Bret started writing songs around 1999.  Since then, he's written a staggering number of songs numbering in the high teens to low twenties and has recorded a few of them on his latest album "Doesn't Get Better Than This" as well as his first album (an exploration of a fondness for Celtic and folk) "Fingers, Frets, and Fire".

Bret currently travels on the road throughout the year performing at Renaissance festivals in various states along with his wife, children, and dogs.  Check the myspace page for gig schedules.
